Did You Know That alcohol abuse is killing our youth?
It has been estimated that 11% of the alcohol that is consumed in the United States is consumed by underage drinkers.About 60% of high school seniors drink alcohol on a weekly basis.Teens who consume alcohol by the age of 15 are 4 times more likelyto develop alcohol dependence as adults than those who do not begindrinking until the legal age of 21.Currently, as a teen I am exposed to alcohol daily. Truly teens canget alcohol as easily as adults can. When attending parties these dayspeople mainly go to consume alcohol and other substances.
Other teens just use it as a stress reliever. Peer pressure is aleading cause in teenage drinking. Teens think, “Well if everybody elseis doing it then it must be okay”.
How to Prevent Alcohol Abuse:
Parents, talk to your children about alcohol. Help them become awareof what’s out here in this world. Children aren’t going to talk totheir parents about alcohol. That is why the parents must make theattempt, before it’s too late. If you’re not careful, your child’sfirst high school party may be their last.
American History Fact of the Week
On this day in 1945, holed up in a bunker under his headquarters in Berlin, Adolf Hitlercommits suicide by swallowing a cyanide capsule and shooting himself inthe head. Soon after, Germany unconditionally surrendered to the Alliedforces, ending Hitler's dreams of a "1,000-year" Reich.
Since at least 1943, it was becoming increasingly clear that Germanywould fold under the pressure of the Allied forces. In February of thatyear, the German 6th Army, lured deep into the Soviet Union, was annihilated at the Battle of Stalingrad, and German hopes for a sustained offensive on both fronts evaporated. Then, in June 1944, the Western Allied armies landed at Normandy,France, and began systematically to push the Germans back towardBerlin. By July 1944, several German military commanders acknowledgedtheir imminent defeat and plotted to remove Hitler from power so as tonegotiate a more favorable peace. Their attempts to assassinate Hitlerfailed, however, and in his reprisals, Hitler executed over 4,000fellow countrymen.
In January 1945, facing a siege of Berlin by the Soviets, Hitlerwithdrew to his bunker to live out his final days. Located 55 feetunder the chancellery, the shelter contained 18 rooms and was fullyself-sufficient, with its own water and electrical supply. Though hewas growing increasingly mad, Hitler continued to give orders and meetwith such close subordinates as Hermann Goering, Heinrich Himmler andJosef Goebbels. He also married his long-time mistress Eva Braun justtwo days before his suicide.
In his last will and testament, Hitler appointed Admiral Karl Donitzas head of state and Goebbels as chancellor. He then retired to hisprivate quarters with Braun, where he and Braun poisoned themselves andtheir dogs, before Hitler then also shot himself with his servicepistol.
