Hi ~ how are you?
Christina and Vanessa here!
We took over the Human Rights page and we’re going to talk about death penalty because it’s kind of a huge thing right now. Not only the U.S. but other countries want death penalties abolished.
First of all, before the pros and cons of them, we want to tell you guys HOW they kill criminals. Most people wouldn’t know how death penalties would be carried out. And no, they don’t chop their heads off with a guillotine. Therefore, we’re going to share what we know about death penalties.
The ways to carry out death penalties in the United States are through lethal injection, electrocution, gas chamber, hanging, and firing squad.
Lethal injection is a fatal dose of drugs that causes immediate death. The criminal is first put to sleep, and then the breathing and heart stops. It is currently the most common method of execution in the U.S. There exists two methods of lethal injections that are used to this day; one involves the usage of a three-drug protocol and the other uses one large dose of a barbiturate. Barbiturates are a class of sedative drugs that are prescribed for anxiety and insomnia. But if you take too much you can die of an overdose. Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland, also known as “Dorothy” from “The Wizard of Oz”, both died due to barbiturate overdose.
The drugs used in a three-drug protocol are Sodium Thiopental, Pancuronium Bromide, and Potassium Chloride. Sodium Thiopental is usually one of the first of three drugs that is administered during most lethal injections. Sodium Thiopental puts the person to sleep. Then Pancuronium Bromide is injected and it paralyzes the entire muscle system and stops the inmate’s breathing. In most cases, the inmate’s consciousness is again checked, and finally Potassium Chloride stops the person’s heart.
The lethal injection process is the most nonviolent way to carry out a death penalty.
We don’t think we need to tell you how you execute a person with an electrical chair. Everyone knows through criminal movies. It’s the same as getting hit by lightning but on a chair.
We don’t think you guys are THAT ignorant to not know what “HANGING A PERSON” means. I mean, come on….. Pirates of the Caribbean? The Crucible? KKK? Got it yet? If not we’ll tell you. First, the person’s arms and take them up a platform. Then, the executers place a sack-like bag over the person’s head. Next, the rope is placed around the person’s neck and tightened. Lastly, the person drops from the platform and the tightened rope breaks the neck due to the weight of his/her body.
Lastly, firing squads. Executions are carried out as a group. There are several death rows and a several soldiers or law enforcement officers that carry out the execution. The executers line the criminals up and place a bag-like sack (blindfolded or hooded) on their heads and they are also restrained. Then the executers shoot through the head or their neck, killing them completely in one shot.
